Even though we don't live in that era, this song has reached our ears at some point, either through an oil advertisement or through a joke. The lyrics are: "Sar jo tera chakraaye ya dil dooba jaaye, aaja pyare paas hamare kahe ghabraye, kahe ghabraye"
The person seen in this song is not a hero but a very famous comedian of yesteryear, Johnny Walker. However, he wasn't from the film industry. Before becoming a film actor, he was a bus conductor. Today's article is about how he became a bus conductor, as his story of becoming a bus conductor is quite interesting.
This story was told by Johnny Walker's son, Nasir Khan, himself an actor, in a YouTube video.
The story begins with Johnny Walker's childhood. Back then, he was not Johnny Walker, but Badruddin. He was given the name Johnny Walker after entering the film industry. However, since he is famous as Johnny Walker, it's appropriate to describe him by that name.
It so happened that once, as a child, Johnny had an eye problem. His parents took him to the local dispensary. There was no doctor there that day; the compounder was there. After examining Johnny's eye, the compounder put the wrong medicine in his eye. Johnny felt severe pain in his eye, which upset him greatly. But the compounder said it would be fine in a while. "Take him home," Johnny's parents brought him home.
For the next few days, Johnny's eye became blurry, and after a few days, his left eye became blurry. He lost his clear vision with his left eye, a problem that remained with him for the rest of his life. As time passed, Johnny's vision, due to his poor vision in one eye, would shift to his right eye to see, which improved his vision. And his memory also improved significantly. In other words, the loss he suffered unknowingly also benefited him.
When he grew up and applied for a job as a bus conductor at BEST, he learned that they required a medical test before the job. And when his medical test took place, he would definitely fail because of his eye problems. He was in a position where he desperately needed the job. After some thought, he devised a plan. The day before his medical test, he arrived at the BEST office early in the morning and somehow managed to get into the medical room and memorize the chart near the eye doctor's chair, as his memory was incredibly sharp.
The next day, when the doctor asked him to read the letters written on the chart for his eyesight test, Johnny Walker quickly read them by pressing both eyes in turn. Despite his impaired left eye, he passed the medical test. And he continued working at that job for a long time.
There's no doubt that his sharp memory and clever tactics ultimately helped him secure the seemingly impossible job. I'm not saying we should resort to unfair means to achieve something or gain favor.
But sometimes circumstances require us to use our skills and wisdom to devise a strategy that, while seemingly wrong, serves everyone's good. For example, if Johnny Walker had thought, "This is wrong, I shouldn't take this path," he would never have gotten that job, nor would he have been able to do anything good for himself and his family at that time. After learning his story, it seems clear that whatever he did was well-intentioned.
